Working On A New Project

Hello everyone, it's been a while. I just wanted to let you all know that I am currently working on android apps. The app that I am working on at the moment is called 'What Are You Tolkien About' which is a Lord Of The Rings based translator, which works on android/kindle devices (CLICK HERE to go to the amazon page). I will be working on more in the future, so any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks, and bye for now!

P.S. I haven't been working on space wanderer lately at all, so don't expect to see anything any time soon. I may, however, make a different space game ;)

Game Dev On Hold! (While I Re-Write)

I have decided to put this project on hold. The reason for this is that I have written everything in core java and it is starting to get really tough to code things. I will still be developing this, but from the start.I HAVE NOT DITCHED THIS PROJECT, I just need time to re-write parts of it. I hope this hasn't caused too much trouble. Next update will probably be in a month or so.

Happy Halloween!

SpaceWanderer Update - 18/10/13: Beta Version 0.2.5

I did it! I managed to release this update on time. I made a promise that I would get this update out before Virtual Minecon (which is tomorrow) and I managed to keep it. I have also just reached 1K views, so I am completely over the moon about it. This week has been mainly spent on advertising the blog and getting this update done, so I hope you enjoy!

What's New/Fixed:

  • Version.txt actually contains something now!
  • Added main menu!
  • Added single player button!
  • Added exit button!
  • Added retry button!
  • Added main menu music!
  • Added button-click noises
  • Main menu background changes depending on time of year!
  • Fixed 'Bobs' spawn location (he now spawns at the top right)!
Any Bugs:
  • As requested by some people on forums, I am going to change the GUI text colour.
  • Not all backgrounds have been made yet so you might get a nasty surprise in November.

One last thing. I posted a voting poll recently, on the sidebar of this blog. Thank you to every who has voted (and is going to vote) as of today, we have 31 votes. If you haven't already voted, you still have 4 days left to do so!

Just Reached 1K Blog Views

I set this blog up on the 17th September 2013 and here we are, 1 month later with 1000 views. Thank you very much to everyone who has downloaded and supported this game. I am planning on putting out v0.2.5 on Saturday. Special thanks to 8BitSandy the artist, he has even made a party themed background and header for the blog so give him a big shout out on twitter (@8BitSandy). Hope I see some of you at Virtual Minecon this Saturday (we have a booth).

Here's to another thousand views!

SpaceWanderer Update - 14/10/13: Beta Version 0.2

I have finally finished development on v0.2 (the GUI update). I hit some major obstacles while working on this update, so that's why it took a while. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this update. Next update (I am hoping) will be out for Halloween, it will have a main menu with some of 8BitSandy's spooky artwork!

What's New/Fixed:
  • A nice GUI made by 8BitSandy
  • Health counter
  • Kill counter
  • Death counter
  • Rank counter
  • Score counter
  • GUI name tag
  • Health decreases when touching 'Plankton'
  • When you die, it's Game Over
  • "Versions.txt" is a file hidden away inside the jar, and will have a list of past versions and ideas for future versions.
Any Bugs:
  • Not really a bug, but "versions.txt" doesn't actually contain any thing apart from a reminder for me to write something in it.

One more thing, you can now access this blog from tiny.cc/spacewanderer. Probably easier to remember than my current URL!

Update v0.2 Coming Out Tonight

At last, the GUI update is almost finished. Sorry it has taken so long (I have been slacking it due to the discovery of some MMOs). Anyway, I still have some tweaking-around to do but expect to see the update come out tonight at around 5 - 7 pm GMT. Thanks for all the support so far!

Before I get back to coding, I would like to mention that I am going to be changing the name of the game (and the blog) soon. If you have any good ideas for the name, then please comment on this blog post with your name idea. Thanks!

Devolopment on v0.2 is going well!

Just thought I would write a little update as I was being a bit inactive. I have been making good progress on SpaceWanderer and I am pleased to say that I have only a few more things to implement into v0.2 and then it shall be released.
Stay tuned!

My Weekend Away

I am finally back from my weekend away. Now I can get working on the next update (v0.2, also known as the 'GUI Update'). Thank you to 8BitSandy for posting on my blog while I was away, although, there seemed to be a problem with the GIF he made (It was supposed to be animated). And lastly, if you haven't noticed, I have added a page dedicated to 8BitSandy's amazing artwork (there should be a link to it in the menu at the side) so go and check that out (the images are 16x16, I will try to zoom them in a bit).
Bye for now!

Friday 27 September 2013

Oh Yeah, I'm 8BitSandy

I realize the GIF in the last post didn't animate, I'm sorry. If you download it it animates. Thanks for continuing to watch this page!

Christopher is Away...

Christopher is "away" for the weekend, but I am still here, working hard on graphics and sound.

Oh and if there isn't a GIF below, or you have to download it sorry, I will try again.

GUI Update (Coming Soon)

In my last update (v0.1.6) I mentioned that v0.1.6 would be the last version before 0.2. You may be wondering what will be in 0.2 (or not, but I'm going to tell you anyway). The next version is going to be, as the title of this post suggests, the GUI update. As well as a GUI, I will be adding health. Note that health probably won't be used until v0.3+. As I am writing this post, my friend (and graphic's designer) is working away at the GUI. Thanks @8bitsandy!

P.S. I want to, at some point, find a way to make a new page on blogger so I can show you all the awesome spaceships @8bitsandy has been creating, so stay tuned! :)

SpaceWanderer Update - 17/9/13: Beta Version 0.1

Here is the first beta version of SpaceWanderer, so I am still figuring out how to structure what has been updated and what bugs need fixed. So for now this is how it's going to be laid out:

What's New:

  • Base of game (Obviously)
  • More advanced movement
  • AI (Unfinished)
  • Border Control
Any Bugs:
  • AI Doesn't rotate depending on it's direction
  • AI Flies off of the screen
  • 'Bouncy' Border Control

P.S Just some things I forgot to mention in my last post - at the moment the game is a jar file (not .EXE) and at the moment I am using MediaFire to upload my game to, so if there are any objections to my choice of Uploader, please say. Thanks!

A Game On A Blog?!?

You may be wondering why I am choosing to make a blog instead of a website for a game. Well, the answer is quite simple. I am going to be posting (regular) game updates on this blog, something you tend not to do on a regular website. So yeah..
